Literary Magazine Banned at Loyola Chicago
Loyola University of Chicago isn't usually regarded as a repressive university, but last week administrators banned a student literary magazine from being distributed widely on campus because of a cover featuring a topless woman wearing underwear with "slut" on it. The Sun-Times covered the topic, as did the Loyola Phoenix. It's common to see Catholic colleges banning discussions of sexuality, most notably The Vagina Monologues, often using a pseudo-feminist argument that it's "demeaning" to women. Maybe so: but isn't censorship demeaning to students?
