In Washington, students are campaigning to support a bill that would protect freedom of the press in both public colleges and high schools. It's a heartening example of how student journalists understand that freedom of the press is essential. California's new law protecting freedom of the campus press went into effect January 1. In the wake of Hosty v. Carter, every state should pass a similar bill, and it's particularly important here in Illinois, where the Hosty case took place.
