An important national conference on academic freedom will be held next year near Philadelphia. Here's the Call for Papers; deadline for proposals is coming up on October 31, and below that is further information about the event.

Call for Papers/Panels
Delaware County Community College will host a conference on ACADEMIC FREEDOM and invites all interested persons to submit a proposal detailing a paper to be presented or a panel discussion to be moderated. There will be seven session periods over the day and a half conference. Presentations and panels should take a form conducive to a lively engagement of the subject matter and the audience. Presenters are encouraged to address one of the four following themes:
1. Academic Freedom for faculty
2. Academic Freedom for students
3. Academic Freedom for institutions (institutional autonomy)
4. Academic Freedom and its (differing) shape in public and private higher education institutions
Presentation sessions will last 75 minutes. Questions and abstracts of proposed presentations or panels should be sent to Dr. Clayton A. Railey, III, Dean of Communication, Arts and Humanities, at crailey@dccc.edu. Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words and submitted in Word format as an attachment to an email. Deadline for submission of proposals is 31 October 2007.
Papers based on presentations at the conference will be considered for publication in the inaugural issue of the online Journal of Academic Freedom.
This conference is co-sponsored by Montgomery County community College (PA), Bucks County Community College (PA), Community College of Philadelphia, and Chesapeake College (MD).

Delaware County Community College will host a conference on ACADEMIC FREEDOM and presentations will focus on one of four themes:
1. Academic Freedom for faculty
2. Academic Freedom for students
3. Academic Freedom for institutions (institutional autonomy)
4. Academic Freedom and its (differing) shape in public and private higher education institutions.
The conference will begin on11 April at 1PM, include a dinner with a keynote speaker on Friday night, and conclude with a full day of sessions on 12 April (Saturday, ending at 4:30PM). There will be a major address at lunch as well on 12 April.
Registration materials, conference schedule, and lodging information will be available at the end of November 2007. Tentatively, registration fees will be $50 for students, $100 for faculty and $125 for all others interested in attending. The conference will occur on the campus of Delaware County Community College.
