Professor Fired for "Malicious Gossip"

In one of the more extraordinary attacks on academic freedom this year, a tenured professor at Stillman College has been fired for “malicious gossip and public verbal abuse.” A month ago, Ekow Hayford was suspended, escorted from campus, and banned from stepping foot on college property. Now he's been fired. His crime: publicly criticizing the president of the university, and calling for his resignation. I can't say whether the president's mismanagement justified this attack, but the president's outrageous assault certainly needs to have an immediate reinstatement and apology. Unfortunately for Hayford, he's not a conservative so he won't get much help from the right-wing groups that claim to defend academic freedom. Fortunately, the AAUP is stepping in to defend his rights.
