Zero Tolerance on Free Speech

The Art Institute of California, San Francisco banned a magazine from campus and fired the professor who published it because of a student's fictional story about video game violence which critiqued the racist aspects of violent video games. The reasons are not exactly clear, but it appears to be the usual paranoid fear that fiction about violence is the prelude to a school shooting: "The dean of Academic Affairs says the school tries not to censor arbitrarily but sometimes it makes sense to stop things in their tracks before students go down a road they did not intend and cannot return from." No, in fact it never makes sense to stop a publication in its tracks out of some irrational fear.
